Elderly couple seeks protection from son

An elderly couple on Tuesday knocked at the doors of the Delhi High Court seeking protection from their son and his wife who have allegedly thrown them out from their flat at Nehru Vihar in North Delhi.

The couple, 67-year-old Ramkishan and his 65-year-old wife Pushpa, at present have taken shelter at a park in the colony under the open sky.

The couple had years ago built a four-storey house in the colony. Later, they had sold the ground floor, and at the remaining three floors their three sons have been staying. The couple were staying with their youngest son, Mukesh, and his wife, Alpana on the second floor.

After some time, the petitioners’ son and his wife started harassing Ramkishan and his wife. The quarrel between them climaxed when one day the young couple threw out the elderly couple from the house lock stock and barrel.

According to the petition, during the quarrel, the petitioners had disowned their son issuing a public notice. After they were thrown out of the house, the aged couple had also lodged a complaint with the Timarpur police station but action was initiated.

Getting no response from any quarters, the couple moved the High Court seeking protection as well as possession of the flat from which they had been thrown out.

Taking the petition on record, Justice Ajit Bharihoke issued notices to the Delhi Police Commissioner, Station House Officer of the Timarpur Police and the son and the daughter-in-law of the elderly couple asking them to file replies to the petition by October 29, the next date of the hearing.
