A Superintendent of Customs working at the Container Corporation of India, Tiruvottiyur, was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) authorities on Sunday on the charge of allowing export of a consignment, in which more than 50 kg of ketamine hydrochloride had been concealed.
According to C. Rajan, Additional Director-General of DRI, they had been keeping a watch on the movement of a container, which was carrying the drug. Even before they could intercept it, the container was loaded on to a ship, which set sail to Malaysia. The DRI authorities informed the Narcotics Branch of Royal Malaysian Customs and it was seized.
When the DRI authorities secured the person who had booked the consignment, he informed the authorities that the drug was concealed in the consignment. The proprietor of a shipping service firm and his brother were also involved in the smuggling. The DRI authorities arrested both.
The Superintendent, C. Magudapathy (51), was arrested later.
