Police confirm three blasts in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Three blasts rocked Mumbai, police said on Wednesday. TV reports quoting a witness say four persons have died in the blasts. An unconfirmed number are reportedly injured.

Police sources said the nature and intensity of the blasts was not known. According to reports, the home ministry is said to have confirmed it as terror attacks.

The first explosion took place in south Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar, near the famous Mumbadevi temple, in which some people were injured, said Mumbai Police spokesperson Nisar Tamboli. The bustling market also has a number of jewellery shops.

The second explosion was reported in a taxi in Dadar area, he said.

"We are verifying the nature of explosions. At this moment I cannot say anything more than this," Tamboli said.

The third blast was reported from Opera House in Charni Road.

An NIA team has been sent for Mumbai. All states have been put on high alert.

Mumbai was the city where a 2008 gun raid by Pakistan-based militants killed at least 166 people.
