College girl raped near garba venue in Modasa

Modasa (Sabarkantha): In a horrific incident, a 20-year-old second year student of a Modasa college was raped on Monday night after she was lured from a garba venue under false pretext.

A police patrol van took the girl home. After an official complaint was lodged on Tuesday, police arrested the accused on Wednesday. Modasa police said the girl was playing garba at a venue on Malpur Road. A man named Vijay Thakore, who had visited her home in the morning, came to the venue and told her to go with him as her brother was asking for her. She went with him on his motorcycle and was taken to the bypass, where she was raped. Police say Thakore is a a vagabond.

“Our patrol van was passing by and seeing the headlights of the vehicle, Thakore fled. Our staff escorted the girl home,” said MA Bhadoria, police inspector in charge of the investigation. The girl returned the next day and registered a rape complaint. She said Thakore had raped her putting a knife to her throat. Sources said Thakore threatened the girl’s parents to withdraw the complaint. After registering the plaint under IPC 376, 506(2) and 135, police sent the girl for medical examination and her clothes were taken for forensic analysis.

Bhadoria said they will present him before court on Thursday for remand.
