Supreme Court ruling surprising: Pinarayi

Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kerala State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has termed surprising the Supreme Court verdict rejecting his writ petition challenging the Kerala Governor's order granting a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Rs. 300-crore SNC-Lavalin Case.

At a “meet-the-press,” organised by the Press Club here on Thursday, Mr. Vijayan said the Supreme Court order was incomprehensible given that the decision to allow filing of the case in 2009 was taken by seniormost judges of the apex court after hearing legal luminaries such as F. S. Nariman, Harish Salve and the Attorney General on its maintainability.

After considering the issue at length, the Court had permitted filing of the writ petition under Article 32.
The petition was filed on August 26, 2009, and it came up for hearing on August 31 and November 25 in 2009, February 10, March 9, April 29 and December 15 in 2010 and on February 11 this year. The petition came up before the Bench, which finally decided that it was inadmissible.
“What can we do but to accept their decision,” Mr. Vijayan asked.
