Thieves steal 22 lakh from lawyer’s parked car in Koba

Ahmedabad: A Gujarat high court lawyer was robbed of Rs 22 lakh by two bikers who broke window of his car and stole the money on Tuesday. He had gone inside a bank in Koba when the incident happened.
The victim, Rajendra Gohil, a resident of Randesan village near Gandhinagar, had gone to the Bank of Baroda’s Gandhinagar branch on Tuesday morning and encashed a cheque of Rs 22 lakh. He then went to Dena Bank’s Koba branch at 12.35 pm to withdraw more money.
“I parked my Ford Figo car near the gate and was inside the bank when two guards came rushing and asked about a parked car. When I said that it was mine, they told me that somebody had damaged the window. I rushed outside and found two bikers zooming off from the spot. I rushed to the car and to my horror, found that the plastic bag containing Rs 22 lakh was stolen from the front seat after breaking the window. Around 20 persons tried to chase the bikers but in vain,” Gohil told TOI.
Gandhinagar district police have started investigations with the help of sniffer dogs, forensic officials and have intensified checking on the district borders.
R H Chaudhary, inspector of Adalaj police station, told TOI that Gohil was also involved in land deals near his village. “He was on his way to strike a deal on Tuesday when he had to deposit Rs 25 lakh. He had already got Rs 22 lakh and had been to Koba to operate his account and get the remaining amount. We believe that the bikers might have followed him from Gandhinagar to Koba,” he said.
